Japan messaging app LINE launches NFT marketplace in Japan

LVC Corporation, operator of Japan-based LINE’s crypto asset and blockchain businesses, on Wednesday launched LINE NFT, a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace available only in Japan.

LINE NFT will offer a wide variety of content, including exclusive NFT videos by Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co. Ltd. called Yoshimoto NFT Theater, NFTs from the classic anime series Patlabor the Mobile Police, and NFTs of other popular characters, LINE said in a statement.

More NFTs from many different genres will be offered at a later date, it added.

LINE NFT is LINE’s NFT marketplace in Japan, where users can easily buy and trade NFTs. Users can store purchased NFTs in their LINE BITMAX Wallet, a digital asset management wallet that they can easily register via their LINE account. Then, through the LINE app—with a userbase of approximately 90 million in Japan—they can conveniently send or exchange NFTs with their LINE friends.

In the future, LVC will collaborate with LINE family services as well as other group companies to offer users a variety of NFT experiences, including the fun and excitement of owning NFTs.

From today, LINE NFT will offer around 40,000 NFT products for sale, including Yoshimoto NFT Theater—showcasing videos of hilarious performances by Yoshimoto Kogyo’s top-notch comedians created exclusively for NFTs—and Patlabor the Mobile Police-themed diorama art, made especially to celebrate the animation’s 30th anniversary.

In addition, NFT videos of popular characters such as Gyuunyuu, Usagyuuun!, and Betakkuma will also be available. From April 20, NFTs to commemorate the retirement of athlete Kohei Uchimura, as well as original NFTs by manga artist Yashiroazuki will be available.

These NFTs can be traded with other users on LINE NFT after they are purchased.

Based on LINE NFT’s strengths of having a diverse lineup and enabling users to start using the service conveniently via the LINE app, LVC will continue to provide a myriad of experiences to users in collaboration with other group companies.

Moving forward, with the concept of “LINE Blockchain Designed For Everyone,” LVC will aim to provide NFT and other blockchain services and technologies that can be applied practically to users’ daily lives.
