Nowadays, more and more brides have been leaning towards practicality and minimalism for their weddings instead of the usual lavish designer gowns. Although there is nothing wrong with extravagance, the pandemic gave way for more understated brides like Dionne Monsanto and Angel Locsin, who both embraced affordable yet classic and comfortable ensembles on their big day.
One Filipina entrepreneur also took the concept of practicality to heart but still found a way to elevate her frock to create the dreamy tulle dress of her dreams. Owner of the online thrift store @trendency.ph, Lyza Molina sourced her vintage wedding gown at a second hand bridal shop for only P1,800. Originally, it was a ballgown but since was having a garden wedding, she went for a more simple yet effortless look.
She then got Amore Bridal, a wedding gown boutique and rental, to remove the underskirt that made the dress lighter. She then attached some subtle sleeves that draped down her shoulders. The alterations only cost her an additional P800—which makes the total cost amount to only P2,600! What a steal!
According to Lyza, she opted for a second hand dress instead of a new one as a “wedding dress will only be worn once and second hand dresses are more sustainable and cheaper.” The bride also says that she has always been drawn to anything vintage—dresses, interior design, and even jewelry! Her wedding just became the best time to exude her love for vintage items.
Her intimate wedding was a backyard garden with a rustic wedding theme. Contrary to common belief, the bride says, “Wedding planning during a pandemic honestly wasn’t that difficult for us.” As quarantine restrictions allowed them to have the intimate ceremony they always wanted, without hurting anyone’s feelings as the health protocols require this.
