Planning to Move Abroad? Guam Has 11,500 Jobs Specifically for Filipinos

With the ongoing pandemic, a lot of people in the Philippines lost their jobs while other Overseas Filipino Workers were forced to come home to their families given the global economic slump. But there are still places where job opportunities are aplenty. Take for instance Guam, an island territory of the U.S. in the Western Pacific, which is looking to employ up to 11,500 Filipinos in the next decade. This was announced by Labor Attaché Armi Evangel Peña of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Los Angeles during a virtual press briefing on August 13.

"In the next 10 years po, kailangan po ng around 11,500 workers or more. Two thousand to 3,000 pa lang nave-verify namin na job orders. 'Yong pagdede-deploy po ay depende na po sa recruitment agency at tsaka sa pag-approve ng U.S. visa sa U.S. Embassy," she explained. The official also claimed that Guam's labor office is specific on getting Filipino workers "dahil very hardworking at maparaan ang Pilipino kumpara sa ibang lahi." Based on a dialogue with Guam Department of Labor's David Bersolia, Peña explained that the bulk of hiring would be in 2023, when the island territory would be employing 6,500 workers.

"Kailangan po natin ng mga electricians, welders, HVAC [heating, ventilation and air-conditioning] and refrigeration mechanics, construction equipment mechanics, plumbers and pipe fitters, operating engineers or heavy equipment operators, of course carpenters, reinforcing metal workers, mga mason po, structural steel workers, camp cooks...at lahat po ng klase ng engineers," she enumerated.
